The UKGTN hosted a workshop on the 18th February in London. This invite only workshop was attended by 45 scientific representatives from UKGTN member laboratories. The aim of the workshop was to review and refine the GenU system for both molecular and cytogenetics and develop the molecular system to cover next generation sequencing (NGS). The agenda included introductory presentations from Su Stenhouse (UKGTN Scientific Advisor) and Lara Cresswell (Head of Leicester Cytogenetic Service) on the molecular and cytogenetic systems respectively. Lorraine Gaunt (Head of Manchester Genetic Service) gave an excellent presentation on a cytogenetic perspective of the system. The delegates engaged in lively discussions and suggested revisions to the system. The GenU system will be revised and piloted by laboratories in 2014.
